Adobe Spark Review Summary

Adobe Spark was founded in 2016 by Adobe Inc. It is part of Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite of software, which has served over 12,000,000 users Adobe’s San Jose headquarters.

Adobe Spark’s features are tailored more for marketers and small businesses with very basic design experience. Its strongest point is its user-friendliness.

Adobe Spark’s pricing starts at $9.99 per month per user. Its pricing falls in the middle of its closest alternatives, Visme and Canva. Adobe Spark also offers a free plan.

Overall, Adobe Spark is a relatively limited design software built for marketers, bloggers, and other small business owners in need of ready-made and highly shareable content. Adobe Spark makes creating presentations, videos, and social media posts very simple to do. However, it ultimately pales in comparison to Canva and Visme’s free plans due to its limited feature-set.

We recommend Adobe Spark if you’re a small business with very simple graphic design needs and already own a Creative Cloud subscription.

  • If you’re in need of advanced design software for readymade designs and social media posts, try Canva or Visme.
  • If you are interested in more robust photo editing capabilities, try Adobe Photoshop.
  • If you are in need of prototyping and wireframing software, consider Sketch or Figma.

Adobe Spark Pricing & Cost

Adobe Spark pricing starts at $9.99 per user per month. It is one of the more affordable solutions on the market today. Adobe Spark also provides a free plan like Canva and Visme.

Adobe Spark also comes with a team plan for $19.99 per month. Consider this option if additional admin features are important for you.

Note that Adobe Spark is included with Adobe Creative Cloud. This plan is $52.99 per user per month and features other Adobe products such as Adobe XD and Illustrator.

Adobe Spark Features

Let’s discuss the major features that Adobe Spark offers and how they can help your design needs. Product screenshots are included to add context and demonstrate the user interface.

Designs

Adobe Spark’s specialty designs are its social media posts, presentations, and videos. Adobe Spark comes with over 46,000 templates for these types of designs. Although this variety of design types are effective for creating quality marketing content, Canva and Visme come with far more templates and design types.

Design Types and Templates

Adobe Spark, like Canva and Visme, is built primarily for ready-made content creation. Contrast this with prototyping software such as Figma and Sketch, which are best suited for wireframes and live prototypes.

Adobe Spark Templates

Here is a list of the templates Adobe Spark offers for your designs:

  • Instagram story and post
  • Facebook post
  • Photo collage
  • Presentation
  • Slideshow

Once you’ve selected your design type and template size, you’re presented with a multitude of design templates to choose and build from. You can also start from a blank canvas. We recommend small businesses select from Adobe Spark’s range of templates to streamline content creation.

Tool Kit

Adobe Spark’s tool kit is built specifically for basic and quick content creation. Adobe Spark’s tool kit is rather limited when compared to Visme and Canva. Furthermore, you lack the flexibility of advanced solutions such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. These tools are best suited for advanced graphic designers.

Tool Types

Adobe Spark offers a decent number of tool types to choose from. Each tool is designed to make content creation easy to understand and effective to do. The biggest limitation is that Adobe Spark does not support graphs.

Adobe Spark offers the same tools for its variety of design types. You can access the following tools when editing content in Adobe Spark:

  • Text
  • Photos
  • Icons
  • Design Assets
  • Backgrounds
Adobe Spark Elements

Adobe Spark’s various tool types are helpful, but the lack of curation found in Canva limits your workflow. Canva automatically recommends graphics similar to the template style you’ve selected. This means that you will have to spend time sifting through Adobe Spark’s elements and assets to find similar designs.

Photo Editing

Photo editing in Adobe Spark is limited when compared to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. However, it is more comprehensive than prototyping software such as Figma and Sketch.

Adobe Spark Photo Editing

You can make very basic adjustments to your images. This includes:

  • Saturation
  • Brightness
  • Clarity
  • Shadows
  • Blur

Although Adobe Spark’s photo editing is not as robust as more advanced alternatives, we feel it does well in accommodating designers looking to make quick coloring edits. In addition to these sliders, Adobe Spark provides a number of filters to apply and further edit. This further streamlines your photo editing workflow.

Collaboration

Adobe Spark’s collaboration is its weakest feature. Adobe Spark does not offer real time editing with multiple collaborators at once. Files can only be edited by team members individually. Furthermore, commenting on files is not supported. We highly recommend selecting Canva or Visme over Adobe Spark if collaboration is important to your business.

Adobe Spark Commenting

Inviting teammates to files is easy to accomplish and similar to Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.

Note that collaboration is not available for mobile users. This means you must edit collaborative documents strictly on either a desktop or laptop computer.

Cloud Storage

Adobe Spark is fully cloud-based unlike Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. This means that you do not need to save your own projects on your device. Because of this, we would recommend Adobe Spark if you feel you will be handling a vast amount of projects and files. However, Adobe Spark does not include version control.

Adobe Spark Cloud Storage

All your projects are stored in the "Projects" section of Adobe Spark. Because cloud storage is not tied to your Creative Cloud account, you can save an unlimited amount of projects and files in Adobe Spark.

Exporting

Adobe Spark’s exporting and sharing options are limited when compared to Canva and Visme. We especially recommend Canva if you’re a marketer looking to automate your posts to social media.

You can export your file as the following in Adobe Spark’s free plan:

  • PNG
  • JPG
  • PDF
  • MP4 Video

Note that MP4 files will have a watermark with Adobe Spark’s free plan.

Adobe Spark Sharing Options

Adobe Spark can only post directly to two social media platforms: Facebook and Twitter. Compare this to Canva, which also supports Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. Canva also comes with a content planner that automates your social media posts.

Adobe Spark Integrations

Adobe Spark offers few integrations when compared to Canva and Visme. Here are some popular integrations Adobe Spark supports:

Adobe Spark Customer Service

Adobe Spark’s customer support team is highly reachable. They are available through live chat and phone. We’ve found that responses take, at most, only up to ten minutes.

Adobe Spark’s primary resource is its blog. This site includes product updates, as well as career advice, case studies, and general design principles.
