In our review, we will walk through the features offered by Jotform. We’ll discuss Jotform’s usability and customer support and describe the major benefits and drawbacks of the software. We’ll also show real images of the software to give you an idea of what it’s like to use the tool.
The most important component of survey software is its survey creator. This feature determines whether or not you can create the surveys you need. Overall, Jotform’s survey creation feature is easy to use and simpler when compared to its competitors.
Questions are the backbone of your survey. Therefore, the kinds of questions you can include and the order you can arrange your questions determines how effective your survey is at capturing important information. Overall, Jotform’s question creator is easy to use and includes several user-friendly features.
Jotform lets you drag and drop questions throughout your survey, making it easier to reorder them if needed. The platform also offers a wide range of question types including multiple choice, checkboxes, written answer, and file upload. Jotform also lets you include widgets in your surveys, such as for payment and e-signature.
How your survey is formatted can have a big impact on how a respondent will interact with your survey. Overall, Jotform’s survey flow tools are basic, but the platform does offer a wider range of branch logic tools when compared to other solutions.
You can choose whether all of your questions are revealed at once per page or can only be viewed one at a time. Jotform also lets you choose how many questions can be displayed per page; include a progress bar, previous, and next button; and give users the option to save and finish later.
Design & Customization
How you design and customize your surveys can affect how your respondents respond to you and your company on a brand level. Overall, Jotform’s design and customization features are robust, considering they do not require any CSS experience.
In Jotform’s basic builder, you can adjust your form’s color scheme; font color; width and spacing of the page, questions, and buttons; theme; and layout.
Jotform also offers an advanced designer feature. With this tool, you can insert a background image, choose a form cover, and even adjust the line spacing between answer options per question.
You can also insert CSS to further customize the design and layout of your form. For example, if you want to place a question beyond left, center, and right alignment, you can use padding to determine the position by pixels.
The next step after creating your survey, would be to distribute it. Overall, Jotform offers a wide variety of survey distribution methods.
Jotform lets you share your surveys through a link, which can be customized to your preferences.
You can edit the link used to share your survey, and determine whether the survey is privately or publicly shared or only shared to those in your organization through your link. You can also choose whether a survey link is submit-only, submit & view later, or submit & edit later.
Email is another way you can share your surveys. Jotform lets you include an invitation message and determine whether with the email invitation respondents can submit and view later or submit and edit later. You also have the option of uploading a CSV file if you want to share your survey with a large number of people.
Jotform also lets you copy code and insert it into your website. A benefit with Jotform is that you can download your code as source code, an iFrame, WordPress login, button, popup, or lightbox.
This wide range of coding options gives you the freedom and flexibility to have your survey appear the way you want it to as opposed to you adjusting your website to insert your survey.
Unlike other solutions, Jotform offers the option to create an app as a method of sharing your surveys. With an app, you can store all of your surveys in one location, which means respondents only need to access your app to access all of your surveys.
Creating an app in Jotform does not require any coding knowledge. The app creating process is similar to the survey-building process. You can also customize the app name, choose when your app is disabled, and preview how your application is viewed on mobile and desktop devices.
After you’ve distributed your surveys, you need response management tools to handle the responses you receive. Overall, Jotform’s tools for response management are standard.
Setting quotas helps you determine what is the best method in receiving the most relevant responses for your surveys. With Jotform, you can determine the number of responses you receive, allow for multiple responses, and allow respondents to edit their responses after they’ve submitted them.
Tools like these can either eliminate the chance of "spam" responses or allow for more accurate responses because they give respondent’s a chance to think about their answers.
When managing a large number of surveys, and especially surveys that require permissions, workflow automations are helpful in making the management process doable. They eliminate repetitive tasks, which gives you more time to examine the responses you have received. Overall, Jotform’s workflow automation tools are robust.
Jotform lets you insert conditional logic into your forms that react and guide based on how your respondents answer. Overall, this feature in Jotform is easy-to-use and offers a variety of ways to filter and organize your response data.
Jotform lets you add conditional logic to fields, such as showing and hiding fields based on IF AND conditions and updating calculations based on field inputs. You can also insert logic related to pages, such as skipping and hiding pages based on a respondent’s answers and sending respondents to the corresponding "thank you" page.
You can set up approval flows that allow employees or colleagues to approve or deny submissions. Approval workflows help standardize the process of analyzing responses and save time by eliminating the responses that are not relevant to your form. Overall, this tool is robust in Jotform.
Jotform’s approval workflow tool operates through branch logic. As you can see above, you can assign those in your organization either earlier or later in the approval process. You can also insert actions that must be taken before a form is approved by the next in line. For example, you can send an email, add IF/ELSE conditions, and merge or split branches as steps in your approval workflow.
Jotform lets you customize the mobile notifications you receive when someone has completed your form. This feature is useful in that you can customize your notifications in a manner that is most convenient for you to view and notice.
Jotform lets you customize the title and message of your notifications. You can also preview what your notifications look like.
After you’ve received the desired number of responses, you’ll need to analyze them in an organized fashion. Therefore, it’s important that your survey platform offers high quality reporting tools. Jotform’s reporting tools are slightly robust, in that they are beyond basic, but not rich enough to be called advanced.
Jotform offers summary data for each of your forms. Overall, Jotform’s summary reports are informative but not customizable in terms of how the data can be displayed.
As you can see, Jotform displays in a line-graph data such as form views, total responses, conversion rate, and average time spent on your form. You can also customize the time frame you view your data and view the device, platform, and location of your responses.
Jotform offers a report builder that lets you display the response data in different manners. This tool is rich in that you can customize how your data and the report look overall. However, it is limited in that you can only display response data as opposed to the types of summary data mentioned above.
You can choose the chart type your response data is displayed in, which includes pie, bar, donut, and column. You can also customize the background, color, and font of your report and download it as a PDF.
Jotform offers over 100 integrations with other applications ranging from analytics to automation to customer relationship management (CRM) to social media. Integrations are key in expanding the functionality of your survey builder. Some key integrations Jotform offers includes:
- Google Drive
Jotform offers a mobile application for both Apple and Android. JotForm’s mobile application is user-friendly and lets you create surveys similarly to how you can create them on their website application. Jotform also lets you view each submission made for your forms but does not offer views for your survey analytics.
Overall, Jotform’s customer support quality is average. While Jotform offers 24/7 customer support, it only offers two support channels, which are support tickets and email.
Jotform’s help articles, overall, have good readability. They are informative and include helpful components such as videos, bolded terms, and images with markings that help reference the feature being discussed. However, they are slightly paragraph-heavy and would benefit from better spacing.
