Telehealth by SimplePractice Features
Telehealth by SimplePractice includes the major features found in most telehealth solutions. In addition, the product benefits from its direct integration with SimplePractice's practice management system. This means telehealth will work seamlessly with your practice's scheduling, patient communication, documentation, and billing.
Scheduling & Starting Appointments
Telehealth appointments can be scheduled by you or requested by your patients. All appointments will be listed on your practice's calendar once they are created.
To start a telehealth appointment, click the appointment on the calendar. You will see a button that says "Start video session." Clicking this button launches the video appointment in a new window.
Telehealth Consent Forms
SimplePractice comes with a default telehealth consent form that is included in the client intake process. SimplePractice allows you to customize the consent form for your practice and upload it to your client portal, or you can create your own consent form through their Template Library.
As previously mentioned, your telehealth appointments are integrated into SimplePractice's practice management platform. As a result, your clients will receive free voicemail, email and/or text messages that remind them about the appointment.
As you can see below, these reminders can be adjusted to send between 24 and 72 hours prior to the appointment. The client will receive an additional text and email reminder 10 minutes before the session is scheduled to begin.
You can customize your reminder emails to answer client FAQs and share best practices. A few helpful best practices that you can share with clients are:
- Use a private, quiet room with a strong internet connection
- Wear headphones, if possible
- Join the appointment 10 minutes early to work through technical issues and test your internet connection speed
- Close other applications during the session
Video appointments are launched from the SimplePractice calendar and can be done through the web application or in the Telehealth by SimplePractice mobile application. You can select the proper audio and video inputs prior to starting your session. Neither you nor your clients have to download additional software or log into an account to join appointments.
The video appointment interface looks similar to other video conferencing tools. If you are joining the call from your desktop, you can use the screen share feature to discuss worksheets and watch videos.
As previously mentioned, Telehealth by SimplePractice is seamlessly integrated with the features of the practice management system. As a result, you can e-file claims, track claim status, and view integrated payment reports (ERAs) for your telehealth sessions.
SimplePractice does recommend checking with individual insurance payers to determine if telehealth services are covered and which billing codes to use. The SimplePractice platform also accepts credit card payments.
Telehealth by SimplePractice is fully HIPAA compliant. The company has a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) that is signed when you register your account.
Telehealth by SimplePractice Mobile App
SimplePractice also offers a mobile application, Telehealth by SimplePractice, that you and your clients can use to join video appointments. The application is available for iOS and Android devices.
The application has over 400 ratings in the App Store with an overall score of 4.1 out of 5 stars, and is a Top 5 Medical App in US (iPhone) and Top 3 Medical App in US (iPad).
Telehealth by SimplePractice Compared to Alternatives
Telehealth by SimplePractice competes with other telehealth products offered by practice management systems, as well as telemedicine pure plays. These tools range in price from around $40 per month to hundreds of dollars per month for larger organizations.
If you are a health and wellness professional looking for a practice management system that includes telehealth, SimplePractice is the best option. TheraNest is another popular practice management system for behavioral health providers that includes telehealth functionality.
If you are only interested in a telehealth application, then you should consider SimplePractice alongside tools like Doxy.me and Zoom. While these tools do not offer the benefits of practice management system integration, they do have valuable features not found in Telehealth by SimplePractice. Examples of these features include more robust patient waiting rooms, support for group sessions, and the ability to chat with clients inside video appointments.
