GoToMeeting Review Summary

GoToMeeting was founded in 2004 by Klaus Schauser. In 2016, GoToMeeting was acquired by LogMeIn and is now part of a bundle of other GoTo products, including GoToConnect, GoToWebinar, and GoToRoom.

As a standalone product, GoToMeeting offers features like video conferencing, screen sharing, and conference calling. One of the most valuable aspects of GoToMeeting is that there are no meeting time limits, meaning that your company calls will never get cut off before they’re finished. There are also unlimited meetings.

GoToMeeting is one of the only video conferencing platforms we’ve reviewed without a free plan, joining BlueJeans as a paid-plan-only platform. The pricing is very affordable, but small businesses should keep in mind that competitors do offer fairly feature-rich free plans.

Overall, while there is nothing that makes GoToMeeting stand out among the sea of competitors, it’s still a reliable, low-cost video conferencing solution that makes it easy to host and attend video meetings. We recommend it if you need something that’s a bit more advanced than Google Meet, but not quite as feature-rich or expensive as Zoom.

GoToMeeting Pricing & Cost

GoToMeeting pricing begins at $14 per organizer per month. The mid-tier plan costs just $19 per organizer per month and includes a 250-participant limit, so we find that it’s a better value than the cheapest plan. If you need particularly advanced features, you can sign up for the Enterprise Plan for a custom quote.

Hosting Meetings

The dashboard is what you’ll use to navigate through GoToMeeting. As you can see below, the dashboard displays the link of your personal meeting room, a dial-in number for meetings, and the ability to schedule future meetings.

GoToMeeting

This dashboard is one of the simplest across video conferencing softwares and therefore the easiest to navigate. There aren’t too many actions available, making it obvious what you need to do to use the platform.

Scheduling Meetings

To schedule a meeting, you will click the “Create Meeting” button in the dashboard. Once you do that, you will be taken to this screen.

GoToMeeting

In this view, you can:

  • Schedule a one-time or recurring meeting
  • Set the date
  • Set audio preferences
  • Allow toll-free numbers to call into meeting
  • Personalize the meeting link and invitation
  • Set a meeting password
  • Add a co-organizer to the meeting

Joining a Meeting

When you click on a GoToMeeting link, you can either join by browser or via the desktop application. You can utilize your computer, call in with your phone, or have the meeting call you.

Meeting Features

While there are many helpful features within GoToMeeting meetings, there are slightly fewer options than in other software tools. For example, in other platforms you can use a shared whiteboard with your coworkers, and you cannot do so in GoToMeeting.

Chat

Within video calls, you can send chat messages to the entire group, organizers only, or presenters only.

Screen Sharing

Screen sharing lets you broadcast your computer screen to the entire meeting, which is helpful for demonstrating your work or concepts. You can share:

  • Your entire screen
  • One window
  • A particular Chrome tab

These different options make sure that you can share exactly what you want and nothing that you don’t.

Recording

The organizer of the meeting can record sessions, which can be helpful for sessions that need to be saved for a later date. Depending on your plan, you will have different levels of recording and storage options.

Integrations

GoToMeeting has integrations with Slack, Office365, Google Calendar, and Salesforce.

Webinars

GoToWebinar is a separate product from GoToMeeting, though the products can be purchased simultaneously and bundled under the same account.

The GoToWebinar product is very popular, with more than 50,000 customers and more than 2.7 million webinars hosted each year. More details about plans and webinar capabilities are provided below.

GoToWebinar Pricing

There are four GoToWebinar plans which are priced starting at $59 per organizer per month and capping out at $499 per organizer per month. You’ll be able to host between 100 and 3,000 participants, which is a very low participant limit compared with alternative webinar platforms.

Security

GoToMeeting has a variety of security features, from encryption to meeting passwords, that protect the organizers and attendees of all meetings.

Encryption

All plans have the same security features: AES-265 bit encryption, SSL Encryption, and security features that are HIPAA compliant. These are fairly technical specifications, but the bottom line is that meetings are protected.

Passwords

Organizers can secure all video calls with passwords. This helps to prevent unauthorized users from accessing secure calls. This feature is not enabled by default, so if you intend to create meeting passwords you will want to be sure to do this before your meetings begin.

GoToMeeting Customer Support

GoToMeeting has live chat on their website, which makes it easy to connect instantly with customer support. There’s also a blog and community center where questions are asked and answered by members of the community.

GoToMeeting Alternatives & Competitors

GoToMeeting competes with many popular video conferencing software tools. A list of popular GoToMeeting alternatives can be found below.

Is GoToMeeting Right For You?

GoToMeeting is a mid-tier and user-friendly video conferencing solution. It’s incredibly easy to use, and hosting meetings is effortless. The platform can be a bit tedious when it prompts you to download the application rather than joining from your browser, but this is a small annoyance that doesn’t impact the quality of the platform.

Though GoToMeeting does not offer a free plan, the plans are affordable nonetheless. It’s a reliable, low-cost option for small businesses. We recommend it if you need something that’s a bit more advanced than Google Meet, but not quite as feature-rich or expensive as Zoom.
