Weebly Review Summary

Weebly was founded in 2007 by David Rusenko, Chris Fanini, and Dan Veltri. It was then acquired by Square in 2018. Weebly’s mission is to help its customers bring their ideas to life by creating a unique, high-quality site that they are proud to share. Today, Weebly has over 350 employees and is based in San Francisco, California.

Weebly is a website builder solution that helps people build high quality websites in an easy and affordable way. It offers an easy-to-use website builder, a WYSIWYG blog editor, ecommerce tools, email marketing tools, and analytics dashboards. Overall, Weebly is an effective platform with a wide range of features – it would benefit beginner website creators and ecommerce store owners the most.

Weebly is one of the more affordable solutions available – its most expensive plan is $29 per month. It also offers a robust free plan that lets you build an effective website, and is also generous with ecommerce features – including inventory and order management, and tax and shipping calculations. However, if you want advanced ecommerce features like automatic shipping calculations for different carrier services, you would need to upgrade your plan to $72 per month, which is one of the more expensive plans available in the market.

Overall, Weebly is one of the most user-friendly solutions that we tested. We recommend it especially for beginner website creators and ecommerce store owners who want to build a simple website and manage their small business.

  • If you want a highly customizable website builder that can support beginner website builders, then we recommend also looking into Wix
  • If you want the best website builder for design and showing off visual work, then we recommend looking into Squarespace

Weebly Features

In our review, we will walk through the features offered by Weebly. We’ll discuss Weebly’s usability, customer support, and describe the major benefits and drawbacks of the software. We’ll also show real images of the software to give you an idea of what it’s like to use the tool.

Website Builder

Weebly includes a drag & drop builder that lets you customize your website’s design. Overall, Weebly’s website builder is simple, easy to use, and is accessible for beginner website creators.

Weebly Website Builder

Weebly lets you create your website from scratch or use a theme. You can add 28 different kinds of site elements including images, buttons, YouTube videos, code, a search bar, and files. Unfortunately, HD videos and audio are only included in paid plans.

Weebly also lets you include custom HTML. This feature is easy to use, but best for simple coding changes. For example, you can use this feature to insert elements not available in Weebly including tables.

Creating & Managing a Blog

Blogs are a collection of articles that are written to demonstrate expertise or share an opinion on specific topics. There are several reasons why blogging is beneficial for your site. This includes:

  • Driving traffic to your website
  • Converting visitors to leads
  • Giving you or your company a voice

Weebly’s platform comes with two features that make it easier to build a comprehensive blog. This includes a "what you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) editor and commenting.

WYSIWYG Blog Editor

A WYSIWYG editor lets you edit your content as it will appear when published. The biggest advantage of this editor is that you don’t need any programming knowledge to design your blog. Overall, Weebly’s blog editor is sufficient and user-friendly.

Weebly Blog Editor

Weebly lets you add the same multimedia elements you can add to your website pages – including text, images, buttons, forms, and code. You can also create categories for blog posts and customize the permalink, SEO title, and SEO description for each blog article.

Enabling Comments on Blog Pages

There are many benefits that come with enabling comments on your blog posts. These include:

  • Providing social proof that your content is engagement-worthy
  • Helping you understand what your readers want you to write about
  • Deepening your relationship with your readers through back-and-forth dialogue
  • Increasing the likelihood that readers will engage with your site in other ways like subscribing to an email newsletter

This feature is average in Weebly. Commenters can only write text comments and reply to other comments, but cannot react to them by liking them. Admins can also:

  • Choose whether comments are on or off by default
  • Auto-close comments after a certain number of days
  • Accept, decline, or declare comments as spam
  • Receive email notifications for new comments

Ecommerce

In addition to building a website, you can use Weebly to run your ecommerce business. Weebly offers key ecommerce features including inventory management, order management, payments, tax calculations, shipping rate calculations, coupons, and abandoned cart recovery.

Inventory Management

Weebly lets you add physical and digital products, services, memberships, and events to your online store and track your inventory. Overall, Weebly’s inventory management feature is above average, but its inventory tracking feature is below average.

Weebly Inventory Product

Weebly lets you customize the name, price, descriptions, and attributes of your products. Unlike other solutions, Weebly lets you customize each product’s SEO title and description. These determine what your shoppers will see when they see your products in a search engine.

Weebly Inventory

Weebly also lets you track your products by stock amount. However, there are currently no settings in Weebly that let you notify yourself when a product’s stock reaches a certain threshold.

Order Management

Weebly lets you manage your pending, shipped, paid, completed, sent, cancelled, and refunded orders. Overall, this feature is average, but effective.

Weebly Order Management

As you can see above, Weebly displays an order number, date, status, total, and the name of the customer who made the order. You can also use a search bar to look for certain orders. Unfortunately, Weebly does not offer filters to allow you to find specific orders by month of purchase or customer.

Payments

Being able to accept a variety of payments typically increases your online business’ conversion rate and revenue. Below are the payment options that Weebly lets you accept from customers. It should be noted that certain payment options also come with processing fees.

Payment TypeProcessing Fee
Credit & Debit Cards through Square2.9% + $0.30
PayPal2.9% + $0.30
Stripe2.9% + $0.30

Tax Calculations

Weebly lets you calculate taxes for different countries and the regions within them. Weebly offers automatic tax calculations for states and regions within the United States and Canada. However, for other countries, you have to manually input taxes and cannot specify specific regions within them. Overall, this feature is user-friendly and useful if you are shipping within the United States or Canada, but less useful if you are shipping to other countries.

Weebly Tax

Shipping Rates

Weebly lets you calculate rates for free shipping, flat rate shipping, and by order weight, and quantity. Weebly also offers automatic shipping rate calculations based on weight, destination, and carrier services for different countries, but you would have to upgrade your Weebly premium plan at $72 per month. Overall, these features are effective and easy to use.

Weebly Shipping

Coupons

You can create coupons in Weebly, which can be applied towards your products. These help promote your products, and increase your sales.

Weebly lets you choose whether a coupon is a percentage or dollar discount, or comes in the form of free delivery or shipping. You can also customize:

  • The expiration date for a coupon
  • How many times a coupon can be used
  • What products a coupon can be used towards

Abandoned Cart Recovery

Recovering abandoned carts is a surefire way to increase sales. Weebly lets you create an email that is automatically sent a certain amount of time after a cart is abandoned. A disadvantage of this feature, though, is that you cannot edit this email.

Weebly Abandoned Cart Recovery

Weebly also offers a dashboard for the abandoned carts you’ve recovered. This dashboard includes data such as:

  • Recovered sales
  • Recovered carts
  • Number of abandoned carts
  • Abandoned carts, email opens, email clicks, and purchase rate

Weebly App Center

The Weebly App Center offers applications that you can install to extend the functionality and design of your website. Applications save you web development time and money. However, installing too many applications can slow down your website.

Compared to other solutions, Weebly offers more applications in almost every major category. As you can see below, the only category Weebly does not offer applications in is data backup.

Social Media Marketing

Weebly lets you add 14 different social site elements to your homepage – including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. You can adjust the alignment of your social media icons on screen and the margins surrounding them.

Contact Forms

Contact forms are one of the easiest and most effective ways to win new subscribers and capture detailed customer information. Weebly lets you upload a simple form and add 16 different types of form fields – including name, phone number, email, file upload, option buttons, and a dropdown menu.

Weebly Contact Forms

Email Marketing

Email marketing is another key marketing channel for website traffic and customer engagement. Weebly’s email marketing feature is advanced compared to other website builder platforms. If you’re interested in email marketing, we also recommend exploring our list of best email marketing tools.

Weebly Email

You can start from scratch or use one of Weebly’s templates when composing your email. As you can see above, Weebly lets you include different types of email elements – including text, images, buttons, blog posts, and social links. You can also create a contact list or import contacts to send your email to.

Analytics

Once you’ve created and marketed your website, it’s important to understand how your website is performing. Your site’s data can help you make website improvements that increase engagement. Weebly offers a dashboard for your traffic and sales.

Traffic Dashboard

Weebly offers a few dashboards that allow you to evaluate your website’s traffic. These dashboards provide basic traffic information, but are overall useful in monitoring your traffic.

Weebly Traffic

As you can see above, Weebly graphically displays the number of page views, unique views, and average pages per unique visit. You can also compare these data points against one another. Weebly also displays your top active pages and top referring websites and search terms in separate dashboards.

Sales Dashboard

If you create an ecommerce store with Weebly, you can view your sales information in a dashboard. This feature in Weebly is robust.

Weebly Sales

As you can see above, Weebly displays your:

  • Total sales
  • Orders
  • Conversion rate
  • Average order value
  • Sales per visit
  • Units sold

Weebly also gives you the option to compare your sales and orders to one another graphically. You can also view your top items by sale and how many sales you achieve per visit.

Mobile

Weebly offers an Android and IOS mobile application that you can use to edit your website’s pages and manage your ecommerce store. Overall, Weebly’s mobile app is robust and operates as a simplified version of its website. You can also view useful statistics regarding your sales and traffic.

Legal & Security

Having proper website and data security is essential in protecting your site from DDoS attacks, which make a network resource unavailable by disrupting the services of a host connected to the Internet. It also protects against malware and prevents perpetrators from gaining access to your and your visitors’ confidential information.

Therefore, it’s important that your website building software complies with certain legal and security standards.

Weebly Customer Support

Overall, we found Weebly's customer support to be slightly above average. This is because Weebly offers a wide variety of customer support channels and support on the weekends.

Weebly’s help articles are a little wordy, but comprehensive. Weebly also enhances the readability of its articles by bolding certain terms, including helpful graphics, and highlighting specific parts within the graphics with boxes and arrows.
