What is Integromat?

Integromat is an advanced integration software that enables businesses to automate manual processes. Like other integration software tools, Integromat allows for a no-code synchronization of individual tools to automate the processes that occur across them. However, Integromat is more sophisticated than other integration tools, as it allows for the parsing of data, data filtering, and error handling.

As an example of what integration software can do, individuals can connect Calendly with Slack to send a Slack message when a Calendly meeting has been created.

With more than 650 applications, Integromat offers more integrations than both Automate.io and Integrately. It does not, however, come close to Zapier's library of 3,000 applications.

Integromat is a sophisticated integration software company that was founded in 2012 by Michal Toman, Ondřej Gazda, and Patrik Šimek. The company is currently headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic. In late 2020, Integromat was acquired by Celonis, a massive Execution Management System company.

Integromat’s purpose is to connect different applications and software tools in order to move data between apps, automate tasks between apps, and automate entire workflows. There are more than 650 applications that Integromat currently works with, including some of the biggest applications for small businesses like QuickBooks Online, Slack, Twitter, Gmail, Mailchimp, and more.

Integromat is one of the more advanced integration tools for small businesses. Because it is more sophisticated and can perform data manipulations, it’s correspondingly a bit more difficult to use.

We recommend Integromat if you need to parse data and wish to create complicated if-then automation scenarios across your software applications.

How Does Integromat Work?

Integration software tools work by creating automated workflows between one or more applications. When this happens, data transfers between the applications. Integromat is a unique software in that it can parse data between these transfers, create if-then error pathways, and more.

To describe how Integromat works, we’ll use the example of connecting your Calendly account and your Slack account. Here are the terms that Integromat uses that you should understand:

  • Scenarios are the automated workflows that you’ll create in Integromat
  • Operations are both the triggers and the tasks that occur during Scenarios
  • Minimum Intervals are the shortest times between two Scenarios

Integromat works by automating one-way workflows. These workflows automate tasks that you would have to manually complete otherwise. Each fully automated workflow is called a “Scenario.”

Each Scenario has a trigger, which is the event that starts the workflow. Each trigger counts as an Operation, and each task that results from the Scenario is also an Operation.

An Example of a Scenario: Connecting Calendly and Slack

Let’s say you want to connect Calendly and Slack so that Slack messages are automatically sent to teammates when an event is created in their Calendly account.

In this example, the Scenario would be the fully automated workflow that connects the two applications and automates the messages. The Scenario is triggered either when an event is created in Calendly or automates on intervals if you’ve chosen to run the Scenario at predetermined intervals.

Each Slack message that gets sent counts as one Operation, and each time the trigger occurs—in this case, a new event in Calendly—that counts as an Operation as well. Each plan in Integromat has Operation limits, so pay attention to how many you are using.

Complex Scenarios, which are fairly unique to Integromat, enable customers to parse data, route Scenarios through different tasks, and create if-then error situations that allow for the Scenario to take many different forms.

A complex Scenario, shown below, goes far beyond a simple connection across two applications. With complex Scenarios, you can add countless applications, route the Scenario through different paths, parse or withdraw data between steps, and more.

Error handlers are fairly unique to Integromat. In other integration tools, a workflow would just stop in the event of an error. With Integromat, you can create custom logic rules and filters that will work past errors that happen in the workflow.

Just like all other integration platforms, Integromat has a library of pre-built Scenarios that have been created and used by other customers. This makes it easy to install Scenarios in one or two clicks.
