Textedly’s features are similar to most SMS marketing tools. Its standout feature is its two-way messaging. Campaign creation and customer list building options, however, are limited in comparison to alternatives.

Textedly Features

Let’s discuss the major features that Textedly offers and how they can help your SMS marketing and business goals. Product screenshots are included to add context and demonstrate the user interface.

Subscriber List Building

You can build your subscriber list in Textedly with manual imports and keywords. Alternative tools like SimpleTexting have additional options such as web forms. Textedly’s lack of diverse list building options means your business has less opportunities to capture subscribers and new customers in diverse and engaging ways.

Manual Imports

Subscribers can be manually imported through .csv files only. Note that if you sign up to Textedly with a free email account such as Gmail or Yahoo, you must seek approval to have the upload contacts feature.

Keywords

Keywords are phrases that customers text to become subscribers. They are one of the primary ways to build your SMS contact list. Textedly’s keyword creation is easy to set up. However, the biggest disadvantage is that custom fields are only available for names and must be purchased.

”Textedly

Editing your keyword response is similar to other SMS marketing solutions. You have standard options such as adding photos for mms messages and shortening links. Note that if you want to leverage custom fields for personalized messages, the only custom field available to you is a subscriber’s first name. Additionally, a one time charge of $28 dollars is required to unlock the feature.

Segmentation

Segmentation in Textedly is not as robust as alternatives. This is primarily due to the fact that there are not enough segment conditions and you cannot create new lists. Instead, Textedly gives you the option to export your segmented list as a .csv file. This workflow is not ideal for businesses looking to target their subscribers for highly personalized messages.

”Textedly

As you can see above, your subscriber list comes with a number of segment dimensions to filter through customers.

  • Search
  • Area code
  • Date entered
  • Keywords
  • Subscriber status
  • With name
  • Duplicates
  • Zip code
  • Tags
  • Sort by
  • Sort order

Once you’ve selected your segments, you have two options. You can either send a direct message to the selected subscribers, or export them as a .csv file.

Message Creation

Message creation in Textedly is basic. The primary limitation is that custom fields only store a subscriber’s first name and must be purchased. The biggest strength is that you can send messages up to 455 characters, which is very rare for any SMS marketing platform. Ultimately, message creation is better designed for text blasts rather than personalized, high quality messages.

”Textedly

Textedly does not come with prebuilt templates, but you have the option to create them yourself. You can also shorten URLs for further analytics. Note that preview messages are not complementary.

Campaign Building

Campaign building is basic in Textedly. Your primary campaign type is custom campaigns. Drip campaigns are available, but must be purchased for a one time fee of $135. This means that your business will have more success leveraging campaigns for internal communications or mass text blasts.

International Coverage

Textedly supports messaging in the U.S. and Canada. Messages are sent via shortcodes, textable virtual numbers, or text-enabled landlines.

Custom Campaigns

Building a custom campaign in Textedly is similar to many other SMS marketing tools. You can choose your keyword list and external media for MMS messages.

”Textedly

Creating a custom campaign in Textedly is simple. Scheduling options are also standard. Note that there is no option to stop a text from being sent to subscribers who’ve already messaged within a certain time frame. This is an additional layer of precaution your business needs to consider to prevent spam.

Two-Way Conversations

Textedly’s inbox for two-way conversations is user-friendly. Relevant data is available such as subscriber opt-in sources. This enables your business to easily facilitate one-on-one engagement with customers.

”Textedly

The inbox allows you to see your entire chat history with any given subscriber. This offers your company additional context for further personalized messages. You can also access the subscriber’s full profile to make any necessary edits or unsubscribe them.

Automations

Automations are actions triggered by specific events that streamline your SMS marketing workflow. The most common use cases of automations in SMS marketing include automated messages, customers being categorized into different lists, and more. In Textedly, automations are primarily found in keyword autoresponders. Although drip campaigns and auto replies are available, they must both be purchased separately.

Keyword Autoresponders

Keyword autoresponders in Textedly are messages sent to customers immediately after they opt-in through a keyword. Editing keyword autoresponders in Textedly is similar to other SMS marketing tools.

After you’ve created your keyword autoresponder, there are no additional messaging or scheduling options available. Textedly does, however, send a double opt-in confirmation message if a subscriber who has already subscribed texts your keyword again.

Analytics

Analytics in Textedly are rather simple. This is primarily due to the fact that drill down opportunities are limited. Most reports are about message delivery and subscriber rates. If ecommerce-specific statistics like ROI and revenue are important to your business, alternatives like Postscript or SMSBump might be better for you.

Dashboard

The analytics dashboard is simple. You have individual reports about subscribers for your keywords.

”Textedly

As you can see above, you have a number of quantitative reports. These include campaigns created, messages delivered, new subscribers, and unsubscribes.

You also have the option to see reports for your individual keyword campaigns. Ultimately, you only have access to delivery rates and unsubscribe rates. Note that no report in Textedly can be exported.

Textedly Integrations

A majority of Textedly’s integrations are handled through Zapier. Here are some of the most popular integrations available:

Textedly Customer Service

Textedly’s customer support team is decent. The primary issue we experienced was inconsistency in response times. They are reachable through live chat, email, and phone. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm CST.

Textedly’s secondary material mainly consists of guides geared towards SMS best practices. Their blog features a complete guide to SMS compliance, alongside industry news and updates.
